Part 01: Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager MECM 2203 deployment | Prerequisites installation and configuration | Active directory modification, schema extension

Before SCCM installation and deployment there are some prerequisites that must be installed and configured on the active directory domain controller and on the server which will be deployed as the SCCM server. we have divided the complete SCCM 2203 deployment process into 3 parts as mentioned below.

In this blog, we will start from Part 1 in which all the perquisites will be installed and configured for SCCM 2203 except the SQL server which will be covered in part 2.

 

 

PART 1: Prerequisites for installation and configuration for SCCM 2203

 

Step A: Extend Active Directory Schema

 

                To extend the schema in the Active Directory domain controller please copy or map the SCCM setup folder as shown below. 

 

 

Step A.2: A.2.1. Open the Command prompt and change the directory to “Y:\SCCM SOFT\MEM CONFIGMGR 2022\MEM 2203\SMSSETUP\BIN\X64” is shown below.

                A.2.2. Type extadsch.exe and press Enter

 

 

To verify the active directory schema extension, we can check from the log files saved in the below location.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step B. System management folder creation and permission assignment in Active Directory Domain Controller

 

Step B.1: Go to Administrative tools and open ADSI Edit Or type adsiedit.msc by typing into Run as shown below

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Step B.2: Right-click on CN=System > New > Object

 

 

 Step B.3: B.3.1 Select the container and click Next

 

 

B.3.2 Type the name System Management and click Next

 

 

 B.3.3 Click Finish

 

 

B.4: Right-click on CN=System Management container > Security > Add the SCCM server object with full permissions as shown in the below image

 

 

 

Step C. Prerequisites installation on SCCM Server for SCCM deployment                 

                                                      

Step C.1: Open PowerShell on SCCM Server and run the below commands to install the required features for SCCM

 

Add-WindowsFeature Web-Common-Http,Web-Static-Content,Web-Default-Doc,Web-Dir-Browsing,Web-Http-Errors,Web-Http-Redirect,Web-Asp-Net,Web-Net-Ext,Web-ASP,Web-ISAPI-Ext,Web-ISAPI-Filter,Web-Http-Logging,Web-Log-Libraries,Web-Request-Monitor,Web-Http-Tracing,Web-Basic-Auth,Web-Windows-Auth,Web-Url-Auth,Web-Filtering,Web-IP-Security,Web-Stat-Compression,Web-Mgmt-Tools,Web-WMI,RDC,BITS -Restart

 

Step C.2: Post restart Download and Installation of Windows 10 ADK

 

C.2.1 Download Windows 10 ADK from the below link as per your requirement for the windows 10 ADK version Download and install the Windows ADK | Microsoft Docs

 

 

C.2.2 Run the adksetup.exe to start the installation for windows 10 ADK

 

C.2.3 Keep the default location selected as shown in the below image.

 

 

C.2.4 Select the below features already shown checked in the image required for SCCM and click Install

 

 

It will take a while to install the Windows 10 ADK. Once the installation will finish then we can move to the next step of SCCM installation.

 

 

After completing the installation and configuration of above perquisites part 01 is completed
